The Teen Center will be hosting the Semester of Service being coordinated by the Georgetown Project on MLK day, Monday, January 18, 2010!
We will be gathering at the Georgetown Teen Center (located in the recreation center on Austin Avenue) at 9 a.m. on MLK Day, January 18th (sign-in starts at 8:30 a.m.). Jim Conway, a national presenter with Search Institute of Minneapolis (Search Institute created the 40 Developmental Assets framework) will present a high-energy, fast-paced and interactive workshop called “Leading With Assets”, which is designed for youth from school and community groups/organizations/clubs and their adult mentors/sponsors. Jim will focus on empowering youth to create lasting, positive change in their school and community and will show how to build Developmental Assets into successful service projects. There will be time for youth and adult teams from different organizations/clubs to plan together as well.
Following the “Leading With Assets” workshop and lunch, we will follow with two service opportunities to choose from in the afternoon from 1-3 p.m. (or longer if the youth want to serve longer) to conclude the day. Service hour credit will be given for attendance at the workshop as well as the service projects in the afternoon. We will provide service certificates for any part of the day your youth participate.
To participate, or for more information, please contact Leslie Janca, Program Director of The Georgetown Project at 512-943-5198 or Brenda Culver, Teen Center Coordinator, at 931-2744.
